Description
This vintage poppy poster shows Papaver rhoeas L., the common poppy, painted as a large scarlet flower with delicate, crumpled petals and a dark blotch at the base of each one. Dark stamens ring a pale green seed capsule at the centre, and the flower sits against a calm muted teal background. Below it, a fine-haired upright stem carries jagged, deeply lobed grey-green leaves, a drooping unopened bud and a ribbed green capsule crowned with a scalloped disk.
The fine linework and layered colour give it the look of a classic botanical plate. Cream lettering on the right names the plant as Papaver rhoeas L., Common Poppy, Papaveraceae, with a flowering time of May to August. It suits anyone who collects vintage prints, vintage wall art and vintage posters with a botanical theme, and it brings a bold splash of red to a kitchen, hallway, living room or study.
The rich red against the soft teal makes a striking focal point on its own or within a gallery wall of vintage floral posters and botanical illustrations. It is a thoughtful choice for gardeners, plant lovers, cottagecore fans and anyone who loves wildflower art.
